Are you a Gifted Parent?
- Do you answer your child’s questions with patience and good humor?
- Do you take advantage of your child’s questions and expressions of interest to guide him/her into further learning and explorations?
- Do you help your child develop physical and social skills as carefully as you encourage mental growth?
- Do you help your child learn how to get along with children of all levels of intelligence?
- Do you avoid comparing him/her with brothers, sisters, and companions?
- Do you show love to your child for his/her own sake and not for intellectual achievement?
- Do you set reasonable standards or behavior for your child and then see that they are met?
- Do you provide early opportunities for decision-making by your child, with follow up of learning to evaluate decisions after carrying out whatever action was taken?
- Do you try to find something specific to praise when s/he shows you work? (A generalized compliment means little to gifted children)
- Do you help him/her find worthwhile challenging reading materials and television programs?\
- Do you provide hobby matierals and books?
- Do you find places where your child can study and work at his/her hobbies?
- Do you provide a place for your child to display work?
- Do you let your child learn about and share in some of your hobbies and interests?
- Do you take you r child on trips to points of interest?
- Do you help your child take advantage of lessons and activities offered by private groups or community organizations?
- Do you teach your child how to budget their time, organize work, and improve study habits?
- Do you give your child increasing independence as ability to handle responsibility increase?
- Do you give your child household responsibilities and other tasks suitable to his/her level?
- Do you avoid overstressing intellectual achievement?
- Do you avoid pushing him/her by not being unreasonably demanding about after-school lessons or activities?
- Do you resist the impulse to show him/her off?
- Do you resist any temptation to exploit him/her?
- Do you teach your child to use his/her gifts for the benefit of society as well as self?
- Do you encourage your child to set high educational and vocational goals?
- Do you refrain from trying to pick his/her vocation, but try to help him/her learn about as many occupations as possible?
- Do your expressions of attitude and your behavior set examples you want him/her to follow?
- Do you speak as properly as you want your child to?
- Do you encourage your child to take risks after careful evaluation of all possible outcomes?
- Do your encourage your child to be assertive?
- Do you encourage your child to set high goals?
- Do you motivate your child to read?
- Do you urge your child to study things closely to learn as much as possible about them?
- Do you encourage your child to not well and remember valuable information?

The Gifted Child Society
This nonprofit organization provides educational enrichment and support services for gifted children, assistance to parents, and training for education.
